Overture is the largest city on the south shore of Randall Bay as well as the largest city on the Modal Peninsula. Located approximately midway along the peninsula's northern border with Randall Bay, Overture is Illuminatia's seventh-most populous city and the principal port city of the Modal Peninsula-Randall Bay interface.
A primary settlement city, Overture is one of the three dominant cities anchoring the Randall Bay Megalopolitan Complex, the others two cities being Adamopolis and Anthem.
As of the 250 AI Census, Overture had a population of 3,422,806 residents. The city has experienced significant growth since then and it is estimated the city will have a population over 6,000,000 by the 300 AI Census, or an increase of nearly 200% within 50 AU.
Positioned at the most centric location on Randall Bay's southern coast, Overture is a dominant center in the financial, insurance, and data information intelligence industries. The Overture Galaxy is the city's dominant mainstream newspaper, but it receives credible competition from the Trusted Record, a non-profit newspaper which receives significant regional distribution. The Randall Bay Countinghouse is among the city's major financial institutions. Prominent institutions of higher education in Overture include the University of Overture and the Collegiate Omniversity of Overture. Both the Galaxy Wide Corporation and the nation-wide networks of Galaxy Wide Broadcasting are based here. Overture is represented in the National Sportsball League by the Overture Facepalm.
Overture was settled by the first multiversal duplication of many of the same people from the Lucidus III ship who also settled the city of Symphony and the metropolitan area anchored by the cities of Für Elise and Beethoven. Expedition forces from Overture were the first to discover their multiversal peers in Symphony and establish that they were the third multiversal duplication encountered by the general Illuminatian populace at the time, making this first contact a breakthrough in Illuminatian history and Illuminatians' understanding of the multiversal nature of their reality.
Overture was settled by multiple, densely-spaced landings of a majority of the modules from its Lucidus ship, which accounts for this city's strong base population and explains the city's position as one of Illuminatia's largest cities today.
Overture, like many of Illuminatia's largest cities, finds the origin of its name in musical terminology.
