The Commissions on The Anomaly were a collection of three independent regional investigative bodies formed by the newly-founded Illuminatian government shortly following the introduction of human settlement to the Neonisi planet. The three commissions were each tasked with investigating the events that led to the termination of the Lucidus mission. They were designed to work independent of one another to learn more about the scientific causes, technical consequences, and human narratives surrounding The Anomaly.

The three commissions were intentionally established to operate, do research, and reach their conclusions entirely independent of one another and to do so under the direction of each commission's own multiversal duplication of Lucidus survivors.

This separation and compartmentalization within discrete multiversal duplication was desired so that it could be ensured that the knowledge and inferences gained from the commissions were as accurate as possible. It was hypothesized that if the three commissions operated independently and each arrived at the same conclusion, then this conclusion would be reliable. However, if there were any deviations in conclusions among multiversal duplications, then these differences might be used as the nucleus of research into the variances and distinctions that might exist between the people of each duplication. Such knowledge could be important to sociocultural research, could inform provisions for equity, parity, and fairness for the three populations, and could have implications for operational aspects of unified continent-wide government, public policy, economics, and other systems.

These commissions were operated within the largest centers of population of settlers from each of the three multiversal duplications. The Western Commission was centered in the cities of Rhapsody and Symphony. The Northern Commission was centered in Serenade and Harmony. The Eastern Commission operated from Adamopolis, Anthem, and Overture. Coincidentally, these decentralized bases of operations for each commission served as a testbed for operating a continental government with similarly diverse bases of operations for various bureaus, departments, and offices, which is how the Illuminatian government is dispersed today.

Amazingly, the three commissions reached similar technical conclusions, with measurements well within statistical margins of error. The personal observations recorded by the commissions' sociological and ethnographic research, however, varied in a highly informative way.

The Commissions on The Anomaly are now remembered as an ingenious system of reverse-engineering the results of The Anomaly and the intentions of the Lucidus mission plans for human habitation and settlement and the mission's protocols for responding to circumstances, particularly as applied to such a seemingly unimaginable expression of an Existential Crisis event as which occurred at the end of the Lucidus mission. As an example, the geographic separation of multiversal duplications which were automatically engaged by the mission's termination protocol ended up being the best imaginable alternative given the situation, given that the separation was large enough for redundancy of the human population but also within the same continent and thereby near enough for eventual establishment of contact and founding of a united governmental authority and singular cultural and economic systems.
