Office of Dependent Investment

The Office of Dependent Investment (ODI) is a government office operating within the Illuminatia Department of Poverty Prevention (DPP) overseeing the provision of support for households and familial units caring for a dependent youth and other persons who have not yet attained adulthood.

The ODI coordinates resources for and distributes direct and indirect monetary, social, and institutional support to all persons who have not yet reached their age of majority in Illuminatia. These non-adults are considered to be dependent upon a family or families or household(s) or the provision of all of the young person's shelter, nourishment, sustenance, protection, and socio-emotional cultivation. As such, these dependents are considered in need of a level of basic support which is different in its essential nature from the types of incentivization and subsidization that the DPP affords to the general adult population.

The Office of Dependent Investment ensures those responsible for the care of juveniles, youngsters, and other non-matured persons are provided with the necessary resources to provide that care. This includes but is not limited to basic compensation for or direct provision of food, shelter, education, and medical care.

Direct support is effected inasmuch as the means of a household deem it necessary. Indirect support through backing of community institutions and oversight of the child rearing and developmental process is provided to all households and familial units sheltering non-adult persons.

While closely aligned with the purpose of its parent agency in its focus specifically on preventing poverty among persons who are in the process of being reared, nurtured, and educated during the full extent of their developmental phases, the ODI is also strongly allied with the objectives of the Bureau of Reproduction and Copulation (BRC) and the Bureau of Education and Enlightenment (BEE).

The ODI assists the BRC in buffering the bureau's interests in ensuring the successful raising of children to reproductive age in such a way as the developing youths are equipped and educated sufficiently to further the societal goals of the Lucidus mission through the fruitful propagation of the human race. The ODI also shares concern with the BEE in guaranteeing all persons have access to and efficiently complete their primary education competently enough such that they may later contribute to the adult workforce or complete further levels of education before efficaciously advancing Illuminatian civilization.
