Community identity in Illuminatia
Community identity is a valued component of Illuminatian culture and is woven into the workings of Illuminatia's society, its media, and is a factor that influenced some of the structure of Illuminatia's government. Community identity is enjoyed as a uniting social phenomenon that strengthens cultural expression, while social norms intensely discourage the manipulation of community identity as a mechanism to actively divide populations or exclude individuals from the benefits of community.
Community identity is expressed in art, media, and sport. Sportsball in particular is a popular vessel of expression for community identity, providing communities with a competitive team with whom they can identify and an outlet that is productive and structured.
The composition of community identity in Illuminatia can be strongly traced back in history to the Lucidus ship on which a majority of the foreparents of the present-day population arrived on Neonisi. This is often combined with a tacit and often unseen association with the multiversal duplication of which these foreparents were a member. Geography is strongly associated with these two factors in community identity, as the Lucidus landings of each of the three Lucidus ships occurred in geographically-distinct areas from one another and resulted in a density of original Illuminatia settlers from a given ship occupying discrete regions.
When a continental government was first formulated in Illuminatia, it was important that the government avoid over-representing or under-representing particular community identities. It was understood that allowing too much of government to be consolidated in association with a given multiversal duplication or with settlers associated with a particular Lucidus ship could result in minority populations becoming disenfranchised in their governance. This kind of potential marginalization was to be avoided at any practical costs, according to Lucidus mission guidelines for the habitation and development of Illuminatian civilization, which acknowledge that such structures could result in the failure of the Illuminatian branch of humanity and thus the entire purpose of the Lucidus mission.
Knowing that geography was a major indicator of community identity, the Illuminatian government intentionally established its capital city, Voston, in a newly-developed city that did not occupy a territory expressing a strong majority by one multiversal duplication of Lucidus ship origin. This city was established in an interior region adjacent to the Timmons Range, situation in between population centers populated by the First Multiversal Duplication and the Second Multiversal Duplication. Additionally, the government distributed administrative roles among population centers across the continent in efforts to further immunize against any undue concentration of power.
