River Modest

Location of the River Modest in northeastern Illuminatia

The River Modest is a body of water flowing from north to south through northeastern Illuminatia's Classical Peninsula. The River Modest originates in the interior of the Neoclassical Range as the mountain range splits into two legs straddling the River Modest valley; the river then empties into the Greater Amadeus Bay at the city of Mussorgsky.

The largest population centers along the River Modest include the cities of Mussorgsky and Grieg. The River Modest system is notable for being entirely watered by runoff from the Neoclassical Range. The river system drains the vast majority of the Classical Peninsula.

The River Modest valley is remarkably protected climatologically due to its position being surrounded on all sides excepting its southern coast by the two legs of the Neoclassical Range. Planning and construction of transportation and infrastructure servicing the valley form the outside is complicated by the valley's situation of having very little terrestrial connection to the rest of the continent that is not frustrated by hilly terrain. The gentlest topography connecting the valley to areas outside the Lucidian Range is placed along the southwest coast of the Classical Peninsula to the west of Mussorgsky in a sparsely-populated region.

Populations living in the cities adjacent to the River Modest are primarily descendants of the third multiversal duplication of settlers from the Lucidus III ship. The River Modest flows through a region with significant adoption of the Demilucidian language.
