The Illuminatia Office of Synchronized Transportation (OST) is a government office operating within the Illuminatia Bureau of Transportation and Conveyance (BTC). The OST oversees the Automated Terrestrial Traffic Instruction and Control System (ATTICS), a universal control and communication system that coordinates and automates the movement of motor vehicles and rail traffic on a ubiquitous network of roads and rail routes, the use of which is restricted to fully-automated vehicles.

The OST manages the certification of the compliance of motor vehicles and locomotives with the standards of the ATTICS network. The OST, in consultation with local tertiary assemblies, also dictates which public rights-of-way are incorporated into the ATTICS system and plans the building and expansion of ATTICS routes.

The Office of Synchronized Transportation employs expert technical operators with extensive training in transportation logistics to centrally monitor the operation of the Automated Terrestrial Traffic Instruction and Control System in real time and manually intervene when necessary.

The Bureau of Transportation and Conveyance dedicates an entire office to this synchronized transportation system due to the importance the Illuminatian public places on the safety of transportation infrastructure and the vehicles that use it. Early in the building of Illuminatia's road and rail networks, the BTC concluded that the only way to ensure high safety and efficiency in transportation would be to design a fully automatic system that removes human elements of error and neglect from the equation of transport safety.

ATTICS

See article: Automated Terrestrial Traffic Instruction and Control System

The Automated Terrestrial Traffic Instruction and Control System is a ubiquitous continent-wide coordinated network of communications channels and control mechanisms. The system directly controls and manipulates motor vehicles and locomotives operating on ATTICS routes. All vehicles traveling on these routes must be equipped with the capacity to be controlled by the system and to communicate to the system and surrounding vehicles. Vehicles on an ATTICS route are prohibited from manual operation by human drivers.

Compliance with ATTICS protocol and instruction is enforced by the Bureau of Transportation and Conveyance.
