The Illuminatia Department of Peace (DOP) is an agency of the Illuminatian government intended to take the place of and reimagine the function of a standard Earthly government's Department of War or Ministry of Defense.

Thankfully, the Department of Peace is not known to equip any armies, navies, or air forces and is not known to engage in activities relating to defensive or offensive strengths. The DOP does, however, use its not-insignificant power to ensure that the inhabitants of Illuminatia remain in a peaceful and harmonious state of existence.

Offices

While the DOP puts a priority on peace and non-belligerency, the department does maintain an Office of Necessary Aggression (ONA) which is tasked with engaging in and preparing for essential assertive measures only when absolutely necessary.

The DOP also maintains the Office of Diplomacy and Mediation (ODM), which is the carries out the department's negotiation and reconciliation functions. The ODM is employed primarily for domestic matters amongst Illuminatian citizens an Illuminatian entities, thanks principally to a lack of alien forces with which to reckon.

Function

The DOP maintains peace in Illuminatia by pursuing two main objectives:

  1. the maintaining of peace among potential threats internal to Illuminatia, and
  2. engaging in efforts to communicate with potential outside contacts and establish peaceful relations before any other potential relationship situation develops.

The Department of Peace is not known to stock any weapons and does not arm anyone. Instead, the DOP manages efforts to ensure weapons do not come into existence among the Illuminatian populace. The DOP is given the power to use most any means to remove or prevent the threat of weaponry, possible weaponized items, or the use of items as weapons.

The maintaining of peace as a priority over defense or warmongering is in part a product of Illuminatia's status as a unitary nation. The Illuminatian branch of humanity has no need to make war with or defend itself against a potential external enemy because the entire civilization works as one nation. And so far as internal threats, Illuminatian culture has learned from its Earthly predecessors that a defense or use-of-force-based approach to managing dangers originating internally is an exceedingly counterproductive strategy and is therefore invalid and not a worthwhile pursuit in Illuminatia. The DOP finds the promotion of peace is much more effective than the use of arms for managing any internal conflict or disagreement.

In respect to other possible external threats to the Illuminatian branch of humanity, millennia of human history have held that the human race is under no threat from any alien civilization, so the Illuminatian government has made no known effort to equip itself with violent defensive capacities against aliens.

While it is conceivable that the Earthly branch of humanity could pose a threat to Illuminatia, efforts to establish or listen for communication from Earth have not yet yielded any affirmative contacts. It is also known that the inconceivable distance traveled across space by the Lucidus mission over its voyage to establish Illuminatia combined with The Anomaly that occurred leading to the discovery of Illuminatia probably placed the Illuminatian branch of humanity in a location that will be impossible for Earth to find, at least without cooperative communicative efforts from Illuminatia. Therefore, it is within the DOP's purview to help manage efforts to reestablish contact with Earth. The DOP also assists with space exploration efforts aimed at locating The Anomaly and understanding its function for possible re-use as a portal between Illuminatia and Earth.
